April 2024 Update: Construction Begins on Fall Line Trail

Ground Breaking Alert!

Virginia Department of Transportation and the jurisdictions of Ashland, Hanover and Henrico are hosting a ground breaking ceremony at 10 am April 23, 2024 at Carter Park in Ashland. And, you are invited to attend! The start of the design and construction of this phase of the trail will connect from Woodman Road in Henrico County north to the already completed section in Ashland. This 5-mile section of the Fall Line trail should be completed by 2026.

Construction on the Fall Line Underway

The Fall Line trail is currently under construction along Henrico County’s Spring Park section.  While this section is only 3,000 feet long, it does involve a major trailhead being built by Henrico County.

Trailhead Design

Henrico County bought this former bank branch building to serve as a trailhead for the Fall Line trail that passes through this property. The trailhead design is nearing completion and the trailhead construction is expected to begin later this spring or summer. The trailhead will include landscaping, benches, bike parking, picnic tables, bathrooms and a water fountain. It is anticipated that artwork will be incorporated into the trailhead in a significant way still to be determined.

Sports Backers New Headquarters Renovation

Henrico County leased the inside of the former bank branch building to Sports Backers for its new headquarters and to serve as a regional hub for active living. Once the $1 million renovation is complete, the building offers ample space for Sports Backers headquarters along with a group fitness studio, meeting space, and unmatched connectivity to the Fall Line. Our new office on the Fall Line trail will provide space to host community events and trainings while giving our staff a chance to continue to bring together partners in the community to make our region the best place to live, work, and play.

Trail Corridor Clean Up

Sports Backers’ Bike Walk RVA program is launching a quarterly service project to support the Fall Line trail and other bike/ped developments in the Richmond region. We’re calling it the Green Streets Team. The first event will be in observance of Celebrate Trails Day on April 27.

RSVP to pre-register, and more details will be announced soon. The kickoff event is tentatively a partnership with Groundwork RVA for a service project near Oak Grove along the alignment of the Fall Line in south Richmond.
